Abstract
At University A, before geriatric nursing training, we teach nursing process exercises based on case studies to learn practical thinking for practical training. We created video teaching materials to provide an overview of elderly people with dementia and the relevant nursing interventions. Among the eight items regarding nursing intervention, the item that most highly rated by students in the questionnaire survey was “talking to the patient at a position where their eyes met.” From the free descriptions regarding learning effects, four categories were extracted: “learning at student’s pace”; “understanding patient’s image”; “assessment to understand patient”; and “how to interact with patient.” Creating our own videos enabled us to notice the patient’s image, which could not be conveyed on paper, by selecting and focusing on the key points of the nursing intervention that the teacher
wanted to convey.
