Abstract
Japanese manufacturing industry, which has ran a big role Japan's economic growth, has been placed in a crisis due to competition with Asian countries in rapid industry growth. Furthermore, Japan faces a low birth rate and aging society and in the near future there are fears that engineers and technicians are not going to be sufficient to support the industry growth. Under such circumstances, it is definitely necessary to cultivate practical engineers and technicians who can establish issues, identify problems, consider solutions, and implement them on their on their own at the work situations. However, most commonly adopted “Chalk and Talk” classes where instructors give one-sided lectures are typical passive learning in the present day engineering and technical education. Student Formula is an education program that allows engineering students to develop practical skills. In Japan, however, the educational program activity has been left up to students to perform independently, and there is no clear educational methodology for enhancing the program' value. Hence, this study proposes a new " P2M-Student Formula" methodology demonstrating the usability of this method through several specific practical cases.
