Abstract
A reliability evaluation method has been proposed for wide-area distributed control system which consists of controller subsystems and a wide-area telecommunication network connecting those subsystems. As for a reliability evaluation measure, functional availability was adopted to take account both of reliability of controller and telecommunication network and their relationship with control function. Considering wide-area power system control, methods for calculating functional availability were provided for centralized, hierarchical and autonomous decentralized control systems concerning local control and global coordination functions. The results of functional availability evaluation for those various types of control systems characterized their essential point of system structure and reliability. By using the proposed method, unified reliability analysis for both centralized and decentralized systems can be quantitatively performed with respect to the number of hierarchical control layers, functional weight of each layer, and coordination and self-regulation functions of controllers. The method can be also basically applied to manually operated control systems.
