This paper proposes a new systematic extension of the averaging analysis. An averaged circuit model, which is derived through an averaging process on a state-space model or directly on an original circuit model, can be analyzed fast and efficiently. Furthermore, it is often necessary to consider switching ripples for overvoltage protection designs. The proposed method makes it possible to compute full transient solutions with switching ripples from the averaged solutions. The principle is very simple and efficient for linear circuits with externally controlled switches of which terminal variables are slowly varying because it is basically based on the superposition theorem of the linear circuit theory. The solutions are expressed with two components; averaged and ripple-correction terms. By expressing the latter with the former by an additional steady-state analysis for one switching cycle, one averaged analysis is enough for computing full switching or non-averaged waveforms. The proposed method is also useful to modify the averaged solutions. Buck and buck-boost converter examples are shown.
