Current Status of International Standards (CIM) on Power Systems Information Exchange

Abstract

This article introduces the status of the IEC 61970 Common Information Model (CIM), which is one of the core standards of the future Smart Grid, based on the special issue about the CIM in IEEE Power & Energy Magazine (Volume 14, Number 1). The purposes of this article are to pick up the activities toward the practical use of the CIM in Western countries and show that the CIM is the foundation to achieve interoperability on the electric grid.
