Abstract
The coming of information-oriented society and an advent of new display devices are making a new technical field in illuminating engineering. Examining these display devices or display systems quantitatively in terms of legibly, new measure scale will be needed in addition to luminance contrast, illuminance or color difference. This report discus some examples of these situations and some new measure scale as the introduction to the following lectures in preceding symposium “Visual display and illuminating engineering”. The main purpose of this symposium is that the illuminating engineering society may also lead prominent research in this new field.
