Study of small light source unit for the Pocket-size projector

Abstract
Pocket-size projectors(PPJ) using LED light source have been released by some projector manufacturers since 2005. Although these PPJ are small size, these are not useful because the brightness is about 10-20lm. We think that the brightness of more than 200lm is required for PPJ. In this laboratory, we study about the small light source unit for PPJ. As for the feature of the developed light source unit, the high-pressure mercury lamp is used as a light source, and the reflective surface of the reflector is combination of sphere+ellipsoid, and the reflector was made by the injection molded PPS resin.We also made PPJ prototype, and built this light source unit into it.The brightness of developed PPJ was over 200ANSIlm(with RGB color wheel), and we confirmed the usefulness of the developed light source unit.
