Efficacy enhancement of mercury-free fluorescent lamps by high voltage application to auxiliary external electrode

Abstract

The authors have been developing mercury-free fluorescent lamps and reported a luminance and efficacy improvement method by using an auxiliary external electrode (AEE). In this study, instead of simply grounding the AEE, another HV pulse was applied to the AEE, which was synchronized to the driving HV pulse and further luminance and efficacy improvement was achieved.
