The aim of this study was to critically reconsider the analysis of evaluation of a multicultural class by the author and to propose challenges for the evaluation of active learning.
As a result of reconsidering the analysis of written evaluation at the end of a lesson (Tokui 1999a), it was found that a diverse viewpoint for the analysis of evaluation of multicultural classes is necessary. In addition, based on an analysis of evaluations made before and after the program (Tokui 1999b), new categories such as “change in evaluation reflecting critical thinking” were identified.
The following were listed as challenges for active learning in the future.
1 Turning the act of evaluation into an opportunity for learning and growth.
2 Highlighting the necessity of learners themselves to enhance their self-assessment ability through evaluation. In addition, the ability to reconsider oneself critically is needed. Evaluation that includes the emotional aspect is also required.
3 Recognizing the viewpoint of grasping the diversity of evaluation in a positive way is needed.
4 Including an evaluation that relizes the possibility of things that are unpredictable is necessary.
