The characteristics of citations in a standard psychology textbook were examined. The analysis of 859 citations taken from the textbook included the following: form of citation, rank order of serial, subject of source journal, comparison of publications, comparison of cited authors or scholars, Japanese authors. The results delineate some unique characteristics of the textbook and the author points out the need of further examination and comparison of standard textbooks in various subjects and languages.
