This paper discusses medical journals which have appeared in Japanese newspapers. Sixty news items from four newspapers issued during the past nine months were examined to answer the following questions: Which journals attract these newspapers? Do the newspapers provide enough information for the reader to find the journal articles which they refer to? And how long does it take to receive the journal issue at our library after the journal title appeared in the medical news item? The results showed that (1) the journals “Nature” and “Science” appeared most frequently in the newspapers, (2) it is difficult to identify the English title when the title was translated into Japanese, and (3) not all journals have been received at our library by the time they had appeared in a Japanese newspaper.
