Abstract
Counting people is useful for a marketing resarch. However, at present, the measuring is carried out by a manual operation. In this paper, the authors propose a method that is able to count the people under congestion. In this method, shadow and floor region is removed from the human image by using color information. The position of a person is estimated by using the Hough transformation for a circle. It is possible to apply this method even under heavily congested situation where adjacent people often come into contact each other, because we estimate the area shared by each person without using image segmentation.
