Abstract
In the present template protected biometric authentication method, which stores a user's biometric information in a template, there is a leakage risk of biometric information when the template is leaked. Therefore, we propose a new biometric cryptosystem which stores and restores a user's pre-set secret information and authenticate the user by using a “common template”, that can be shared by every user and is different from the former template storing each user's biometric information. As an example of the proposed method, we also describe a fingerprint-based biometric cryptosystem and show some evaluation results of the basic performance of the proposed method. By using the common template, the proposed method makes it possible to realize a biometric cryptosystem with increasing security against biometric information leakage as well as simplifying the construction and management of an authentication system.
