By summarizing the historical context, EDZ characteristics related to excavation method, and exploring the latest advancements, it equips readers with a deep understanding in EDZ research. Furthermore, by addressing unresolved issues and suggesting future research directions, this paper paves the way for innovative solutions and advancements in geomechanical engineering and underground construction. It identifies unresolved issues and proposes directions for future research, aiming to inspire further investigations and breakthroughs in this area.
