Learning that silk was exported as part of the economic revitalization carried out by the Meiji Restoration in Japan, the government of Cambodia in recognition of the importance of the silk sector for economic development
had begun mass-producing silk about 20 years ago, aiming to make its own economy independent. After a lot of trial and error, the Khmer Silk Legacy (KSL) which is a triple helix team involving the government, academia and
the private sector had been formed to revive the sericulture of “Cambodge” or Cambodian Golden Silk (CGS) that was once deeply rooted in the Angkor Empire. This report shows its progress.
