Properties of moulding sand are tested by various method, but these properties are not generally represent the condition of the mould. As a method of testing the condition of the practical mould, we made a new tester. A needle erected on the mould surface is rammed by its weight, and depth of this needle is measured. By this procedure tightness of the mould is known. In this report the result of this procedure in the green sand mould is tested and found that practical ramming of the mould varies greatly and permeability is also measured by the depth of the needle.
