This report gives informations on the relation between the shrinkage behavior and carbon equivalent of gray cast iron.
Two kinds of test castings were used. The author obtained the chart showing the relationship between carbon equivalent, casting temperature and shrinkage defects.
In the irons of 3.4-3.7 C.E., the outer and inner shrinkage defects appeared depending on the temperature, but in that of 3.8-4.0 C.E., the outer shrinkage was found only in the specimens cast at high temperature. The cast iron which have the C.E., more than the value mentioned above showed no shrinkage.
