  This study was carried out for the purpose of industrializing oxygen enrichment in hot blast cupolas.
   Two water cooled, hot blast cupolas with melting rates of 15 and 8 t/hr, respectively, were used for this study. The methods of enriching the blast with oxygen were classified into the continuous method and the intermittent method. In the continuous oxygen enrichment, the oxygen content of the blast was from 22.0 to 23.0%. And in the intermittent oxygen enrichment, the oxygen content of the blast was 21.5 to 22.5%. The oxygen was produced by a special gaseous oxygen production equipment and was fed directly into the blast main.
  As a result of this study, a conclusion for industrialization was obtained. The results of this study are summarized as follows:
  (1) Intermittent oxygen enrichment has a superb control over tapping temperature.
  (2) The more the oxygen content of the blast increased, the more the melting rate increased.
  (3) It was recognized that the coke ratio decreased in the intermittent oxygen enrichment, although it did not decreased in continuous oxygen enrichment because of the lowering of the coke bed by oxygen enrichment. It follows that attention is necessary to maintain the height of the coke bed in continuous oxygen enrichment.
  (4) It was recognized that there was a slight increase in the carbon content, while there was a slight decrease in the sulpher content. However, no changes in other chemical compositions and mechanical properties by the oxygen enrichment were recognized.
