Seventy five mg of DMAE (2-dimethylaminoethanol) was daily administered per os for two months in succession to 7 chronic and deteriorated schizophrenics who had been treated with specific psychiatric therapies and at present so-called schizophrenic dementia. Disturbance of volition shuch as apathy, mutism and motionlessness in bed was remarkably improved. Among 7 cases, 3 were apparently found to be effective, 2 were fairly and 2 were not so effective. Severe insomnia and neurological side-effects were not observed.
DMAE (2-dimethylaminoethanol) can be applied to withdraw schizophrenic patients according to motivate the volition for play or work-therapy and to mitigate cares on nursing and ward-management.
