Abstract
B. M. R., 131I uptake test, thyroid scanning are widely used for the diagnosis of the thyroid diseases, We take chest X-ray picture including the neck by high voltage to observe the site of the trachea.
The strums nodosa in our cases occur more frequently in female than in male, and rather frequently in young age. As to the cases of thyroid cancer the same tendency is noticed, that distinguishes this type of cancer from one of other regions.
The statistical observation on 247 cases of strums disclosed that displacement of trachea is more frequently found in the group of struma without hyperthyroidism, and especially in the group of struma nodosa localized on the one side the displacement occur in high frequency i.e. 71.1%. In the 60% of struma nodosa in which the trachea displacement was found, the malignancy of tumor was proved histologically.
Genellary the struma nodosa show the defect or cold nodule on the thyroid scintigram.
The histological examinations of 17 cases of our struma nodosa revealed nine carcinomas, one sarcoma, three follicular adenomas and so on. On the cases of displacement of the trachea the thyroid cancer should be ruled out.
