A case of laryngeal hemangioma in a woman, aged 70, is reported. Laryngeal hemangioma is believed to be rare in occurrence. The tumor was a walnut-sized and found situated in the region of the left arytenoid cartilage. Removal of the tumor was accomplished by the inferior pharyngotomy combined with tracheostomy under general anesthesia. The capsulated tumor was dissected and removed without disruption of the mucous membrane covering the tumor. There was no complication during and after the operation. Microscopically it was found to be cavernous hemangioma.
The authors state that submucous dissection of the tumor and sututring mucous membrane of the larynx should be attempted for prevention of the cicatrical laryngeal stenosis and of postoperative hoarseness.
