Tetanus is a disease of man that could be almost completely eliminated by universal active immunization during infancy and childhood. But the active immunization for tetanus is not yet so common in Japan compared with U. S. A, and Europe.
At recent, we experienced very severe case in which incubation period and onset time was 6 days and 15 hours respectively. Fortunately he received reasonable dosage of tetanus toxoid and antibiotics prior to admission. His life was sustained with intensive medical treatment and care, and he was discharged 2 months after onset, meanwhile he suffered from hepatitis.
In this paper, we presented our experience and review of tetanus prophylaxis and therapy.
