Abstract
Cervicitis is a common gynecologic disease. Weitzner reported originally that it is effective method to use CO2 snow for chronic cervicitis treatment in 1940. With recent improvement of cryosurgical instrument and introduction of newer refrigerant, gynecologists had become to take note of cryotherapy for chronic cervicitis.
About one hundred patients with a clinical diagnosis of chronic cervicitis were treated with cryotherapy and studied during the period from April to December 1972 in the department of gynecology, Kanazawa National Hospital.
Age of patients ranged from 20 to 49 years. The most complaints were yellowish or bloody vaginal discharge, postcoital bleeding and spotting. The instrument utilized in this study was England Spenbry Co. TCC-10 and Tohitsu Co. 10-1 cryostat. Cryotherapy was performed using N2O gas and CO2 gas as the refrigerant which was delivered through a special cervical probe.
Treatment carried out in the outpatient department without analgesia or anesthesia. Each patient was subjected to the taking of papanicolaou smear and negated malignant change prior to operation.
All patients complained much watery discharge but no serious complications have occured in this therapy. 92 per cent of patients have completely healed or remitted for 12 weeks duration. There was no considerable difference from severe erosion to mild erosion in the healing time and effect. For this method, Naboth's cysts were difficult to disappear.
Thus, cryotherapy is easy technique and successful method for chronic cervicitis.
