I reported a case of aseptic necrosis of Os capitatum. The patient was a student nurse of 19-years-old. She began to feel weakness and pain on the right wrist after minor trauma. There was no sign of inflammation, but X-ray demonstrated rarefaction and destruction at distal portion and sclerosis at proximal portion of Os capitatum.
Operation was performed by excision of lesion and intercarpal bone-fusion with grafting.
Histological finding revealed necrosis of bone, proliferation of connective tissue with many vessels and metaplastic ossification. This case was the first report in Japan.
