Abstract
During 19 years from 1972 to 1990, 417 patients with carcinoma in situ (CIS) and 269 patients with microinvasive carcinoma of the uterine cervix were treated at Kyusyu Cancer center. Of the 417 cases of CIS, 83 were treated with Ionization, 6 with radiation and 328 with histerectomy. Of 269 cases of microinvasive carcinoma, 8 were treated with conization, 5 with radiation, 109 with simple hysterectomy, 139 with modified radical hysterectomy and 8 with radical histerectomy.
As to CIS, one of the patients recurred. As to microinvasive carcinoma, in 111 patients who received a pelvic lymph-adenectomy, no pelvic lymph-node metastasis was found. Recurrence occurred in 4 cases. Of these 3 recurred at vaginal stump.
It is concluded that close investigation and resection of vaginal wall are necessary for the treatment of stage la cervical cancer.
