Abstract
We investigated the numbers, birth weight, time zone on admission and birth place of the neonates hospitalized to our NICU from Jan. 1991 to Oct. 1992. The total admission numbers during this period were 980, and 661 neonates (67%) of all were transported by the doctor's car to NICU. There were 105 cases (11%) of very low birth weight neonates whose birth weights were under 1500g, and were 38 cases (4%) of extra low birth weight ones under 1000g. Forty-two percent of all the cases were admitted in the night time, and these many cases were born out of Okayama city, especially, about the half of the cases after midnight were born out of the city. The cases from out of the city have been transported almost all by the doctor's car. Five doctors including the author have been working at these tansports more than 300-times a year. We insist that more man-powers including the pra-medicals and maternal transports are necessary to fill up the neonatal medical care and its regionalization.
