Abstract
Congo-red index and plasma catalase value were employed to determine the function of the reticuloendothelial system. The results are as follows:
1) Conga-red index showed a similar value as the percentage of azorubin-S excretion.
2) The function of reticuloendothelial system seems to be more accurately elicited by the plasma catalase value, but further investigation is necessary.
3) The splenectomy seems to have a different influence on the reticuloendothelial system than the “blocking” it by injections of India ink. It seems that the former has an stimulating influence upon certain tissues of the reticuloendothelial system.
