Compared with hydraulic oil, low viscosity of water is one of big differences in fluid property. In this paper, control performance of water hydraulic systems is investigated concentrating on pressure loss and fluid transients in pipelines. Comparisons between water and oil hydraulics are carried out through experiment and simulation. It is pointed out that water hydraulics has a merit of low pressure loss. Low dissipation and high surge pressure must be considered in designing water hydraulic systems.
