This paper introduces IoT (internet of things)/AI (artificial intelligence)-based information collaborative cultivation support technology, researched and developed with support from JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) PRESTO and FOREST projects. With the rapid advancement of IoT and AI, it is anticipated that traditional cultivation know-how can be efficiently passed down to future generations, facilitating the development of innovative agricultural methods. The research focuses on refining the tacit knowledge of skilled farmers, known as “artisanal techniques,” through non-destructive, non-invasive plant phenotyping techniques and multimodal data applicable to both facility horticulture and open field cultivation. Plant phenotyping involves understanding and quantifying phenotypes such as plant height, germination, flowering, and leaf length. This technology is being researched globally, with a notable emphasis on complex growth data analysis using deep learning and foundational models. This paper summarizes the development of information collaborative cultivation support technology in our laboratory, emphasizing content relevant to those involved in this society.
