Not limited to recent PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) regulatory issues, health and safety considerations when handling chemicals are becoming increasingly stringent year by year. Toners and inkjet inks related to digital imaging are composed of mixtures of chemicals, and opportunities for them to be subject to regulation across various aspects are growing. Furthermore, we have entered an era where companies are increasingly being evaluated on their ability to address the SDGs (sustainable development goals). The reality is that environmental compliance efforts are often viewed merely as a burden. However, we believe these environmental measures should be approached as new technological development initiatives, transforming them into a major factor for providing high-value-added products. This paper provides an overview of how environmental regulations have evolved and discusses the direction of considering them as a significant element of technological development.
