About a Mask Inner-Pressure Fitting Tester and the Measurement of its Protection Factor

Abstract

As a quantitative fit tester for checking the leak rate of respiratory protection equipment, the ”Roken type-Mask Fitting Tester Model MT-03TM (Shibata Scientific Technology Ltd) is primarily being used in Japan, and the PortaCount ProTM (TSI Inc.) is primarily being used in Europe and the United States. In this study, the mask inner-pressure and the leak rate of respirators were measured by means of a new quantitative fit tester “mask inner-pressure fitting tester (MNFT)” developed by Shigematsu Works Co., Ltd. and Shibata Scientific Technology Ltd. The mask inner-pressure and the leak rate of a replaceable respirator and a powered air-purifying respirator were verified. Since MNFT can observe the leak rate of the respirator in real time, it has been proven effective for the improvement of mounting conditions, and therefore useful for evaluating the performance of the respirator during its use.
