We have examined the various PRML method by simulation using the playback data from an optical disk recorder. We have tried the Viterbi decoding of 2 level-4 state, 4 level-4 state, 3 level-4 state, and 7 level-6 state. The lowest bit error rate of those is the Viterbi decoding of 3 level-4 state.
