Abstract
We previously reported on a new decision technique of motion vectors suitable for bidirectional prediction (BP). It detects forward and backward vectors independent of each other by using the conventional block matching and modifies them so that the power of BP errors can have a minimum. This paper describes application of the overlapped motion compensation to BP and moreover proposes a modification method of motion vectors which takes into account effects of their surrounding vectors as well.
