Assignment of Indices to a Color Quantized Image Considering Predictive Efficiency

Abstract

In a color quantized image, the relation between representative colors and their respective indices can be determined freely. This paper proposes a new method which assigns an appropriate index to each representative color so that the index can be efficiently encoded using predictive lossless coding. Simulation results indicate that coding rates of 8-bit color quantized images decrease by about 0.5 bits/pel by introducing the new method.
