An image-acquisition method has been developed for HDTV high-speed cameras. Four charge-coupled devices, each with 1.3-M pixel capability, are used, Two are for green, each driven by one channel using alternative shutter timing. The other two, one for red and one for blue, are driven by sequential line scanning. The resulting image pick-up rate is three times faster than with the standard system, even though the driving speed is only 1.5 times as fast. This image-acquisition method will enable the development of an HDTV high-speed video pick-up system suitable for telecasting sports events.
