Digital multimedia applications demand real-time and high throughput data retrieval from storage devices. Future trend for storage devices, LSI memories hard disks magneto-optical disks phase change optical disks and tapes, in digital multimedia services would be discussed in this paper. This paper suggests some technical approaches which fits optical disk devices and tape devices for digital multimedia services.
