Camera panning is a technique that is widely used to exaggerate the movement of a subject. However, many problems must be overcome in order to produce effective streaks of background scenery. An image processing was used to convolute a background with several one dimensional functions, before the image of a subject was overlapped. The best convolution function that exaggerates the impression of movement was found under assessment of the processed images. The function of the image processing corresponded to the photographing of the moving subject by a panning camera which iris opened slowly then closed slowly during the shutter releasing period.
