Abstract
A method for compensation of rain attenuation in necessary in more reliable next-generation broadcasting satellite systems. A study of transponder output power ti compensate rain attenuation is very important to achieve high reliability. First, we estimated the maximum one-minute rain rate in a 10-minute-raifall that can be easily surveyed in Japan. We calculated the additional transponder output power needed by a next-generation broadcasting satellite to compensate for rai attenuation. The rain-event coverage rate od this system was then calculated by using the AMeDAS 10-minute-rainfall data for 1300 throughout Japan.
