As a method for the selective sharpness enhancement method, we present a coupled nonlinear diffusion filter equipped with a reaction term, an adaptive second-order nonlinear smoothing term and adaptive overshooting term. This coupled nonlinear diffusion method utilizes information about local image contents to control both the degree of the second-order smoothing and the magnitude of the overshoot to be added.
