Abstract

Light diffraction of aligned polymer fibers was investigated, which were formed by a phase separation of a liquid crystal and polymer mixture in an anisotropic phase. It was confirmed that the light diffraction pattern of He-Ne laser beam due to the polymer fibers depended on anisotropy and periodicity of the dispersed polymer fibers. The angles of the first order diffraction peak were corresponding to values calculated with the periodidty of the formed polymer fibers. This method using the light diffraction is useful for quantitative evaluation of the polymer fibers.
