A cylindrical magnetic storage system aiming at realization of high transfer-rate and high areal-density was built as a trial. The system has the possibility of simplifying multiple-head control. Double-layered perpendicular medium was made on the cylindrical substrate and fundamental read/write characteristics using a single-pole-type writer and a GMR reader for cylindrical media were obtained.

Various multiplexing methods have been studied in holographic recording. Phase-code multiplexing method is promising because there is no mechanical movement and there is possibility of fast access. Several papers described multiplexing characteristics using Walsh-Hadamard transformation. In this paper, we focus on phase-code multiplexing characteristics using discrete cosine transformation.

The diffraction efficiencies at the various angle of the reference beam as a function of the beam width are calculated using two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method. The calculation results show that the diffraction efficiencies at the null points in the angular selectivity are closely connected with the beam width, and are similar to the experimental results.

We have developed the mobile phone which can receive terrestrial digital broadcasting. The mobile phone uses the reception adapter for digital broadcasting and a remodeled mobile phone which is commercially available for cdma2000 1x EV-DO (W11H) is used for the body. The reception adapter consists of the reception anntena, RF-module and the FPGA to control them. The mini-SD interfaces are used to transfer received digital datas into the mobile phone and the application processor in the mobile phone handles them. Terrestrial digital broadcasting for mobile terminals is expected to start by late 2005 and we confirmed the mobile phone we developed would work for it

We examined the processing of making to binary technique that used edge information in the image. The edge information is calculated in each block that divides the image into the unit of the square of several pixels and the edge information is calculated by the method of comparing mean values of the block with the value of each pixel. Even if the brightness of the screen changes, the edge information can accurately extract the density change. As a result, it has been understood to be able to put out a feature big as the processing of making to binary of the s hading image can be accurately done.

We have proposed the Free-Viewpoint Television (FTV) which enables a viewer to select arbitrary viewpoints using Ray-Space method. Ray-Space requires a tremendous amount of data made from multiple camera information, and needs to be greatly compressed. So far, we have investigated compression methods in linear camera arrangement. In this paper, we propose a new compression method based on sub-sampling and interpolation in a circular camera arrangement. Hierarchical and sequential interpolation with/without residual error coding were compared. Experimental results showed that the hierarchical interpolation gives the better coding efficiency than sequential one.

Though the model is robust to noise in an image, it often fails in the recognition of a road line when a part of the line is hidden by the preceding vehicles. This paper describes a new method which enables the recognition even in such a case by combining two ladder type models corresponding to a pair of road lines.

In this method, the computation is interrupted, if the partial summation exceeds the temporal (previous) minimum value. There are no risks of "local optimum", since the method is of full search and only the redundant summation is eliminated. Simulation has made it clear that the steps are reduced to 20〜60%.
