We studied liquid crystal alignment induced by micropolymer filaments. The polymer filaments are extracted from a nonwoven cloth by extending and exfoliating it. The formed filaments were sandwiched between glass substrates, and then the nematic liquid crystal was filled in the gap between the substrates. The liquid crystal director orients along the filaments. The two-dimensional arrangement of filaments enables spatial alignment control of liquid crystal in a device plane.
