Abstract
This paper presents a method of direct moving image compression of a CMOS image sensor output with on-chip color filter. The filter output is decomposed into R, G, and B components and luminance component is calculated for motion estimation. Motion compensated images are compressed using a method previously reported. This approach is suitable for compact realization of a digital one-chip camera such as used for capsule-type endoscopes. The image compressor can be implemented with less hardware than the MPEG processor. The PSNR as a function of the compression ratio of the proposed method is compared with conventional moving picture compression method.
