Abstract
This paper presents an image-processing method for noise-suppression-type image contrast enhancement, and the method employs the BV-L^1 nonlinear image-decomposition as the pre-process of the contrast enhancement. This decomposition method separates a given input image into its three components: the BV, the L^1, and the residual components. By applying the contrast enhancement technique robust against noise to the luminance signal of the separated BV component, we construct an advanced algorithm that can enhance image contrast while suppressing the effect of noise simultaneously.
