Abstract
We propose an adaptive coding method of motion vectors according to their magnitude in order to improve the performance of 4:4:4 video compression based on AVC/H.264. Motion vector search is performed coarsely for big motion and finely for small motion by means of restrictive sub-pel search depending on the magnitude of motion vectors to derive theirefficiently coded representations. Computer simulation for our proposed method has been performed to clarify significant coding gain for the condition of higher compression ratio, which is essentially important for end-user applications.
