3-9 A study on improving luma-based chroma intra prediction method

Abstract

In luma-based chroma intra prediction in HEVC Test Model, chroma samples are predicted from down-sampled luma samples of the same block by linear model relationship. We propose applying horizontal filtering on luma samples to improve prediction performance by removing horizontal aliasing effect. Experimental results using HM-3 show up to 0.7% BD rate improvement for chroma signal.
