We have been studying dual-polarized MIMO and ultra-multilevel OFDM transmission scheme to enable large-volume content services such as 8K Super Hi-Vision in terrestrial broadcasting. We conducted the 8K terrestrial transmission (91.8 Mbps) at long distance over 27 km using one channel of ultra-high frequency (UHF) band (Bandwidth : 6 MHz) at Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. We also have been researching single frequency network (SFN) technology that comprises transmission networks using same channel. In this study, we have developed advanced SFN using space time coding (STC) technology. We report some results of the advanced SFN field experiment for 8K transmission at Hitoyoshi City. In this field experiment, we confirmed that the required received power of the advanced SFN improved from that of the conventional SFN and that the amount of improvement was a maximum of 3 dB.
