Abstract

In our previous study, a block-adaptive spatio-temporal prediction technique that exploits both intra and inter frame correlations simultaneously was investigated for efficient video coding. In this paper, we extend the technique to use both past and future reference frames like the bidirectional prediction method. Moreover, an additional reference frame which is interpolated in a temporal direction based on pixel-wise motion estimation is utilized in the prediction technique.
