An Efficient Entropy Coding Method for Sparse Coefficients of Multi-class K-SVD-based Image Compression

Abstract

Recently, a dictionary design method based on multi-class K-SVD has been studied for application in highly efficient image coding. In this research, we analyze statistical distribution of sparse coefficients theoretically and experimentally, and newly propose an adaptive entropy coding method for the sparse coefficients’ position and magnitude based on the number of non-zero coefficients of the block to be coded.
