Abstract
This paper describes a movement detection method derived from composite color television signals. IDTV, which improves the picture quality of conventional color TV signals, utilizes motion adaptive processing with frame memories.
Signals combining the low frequency components of an NTSC inter-frame difference and a two-frame difference includes good motion information without miss-detection is stationary areas. A PAL inter-frame diffence signal sampled by a proper phase also represents good motion information with no miss-detection.
Motionlessness in moving areas is reduced by inter-field processing of motion information. A recursive temporal and spatial filter with a field delay loop performs this purpose. Edge-adaptive control of the recursive filter output indicates good performance for reducing over-detection around edges.
